Role of engineering science and practice in the sustainable development of society

Abstract

The progress of engineering in the attainment of sustainable development of society is considered. The technique for analysis of the product and technology life-cycle is under special emphasis. A brief review of the system of indicators and indices is presented. It is shown how engineering indicators and indices fill-in the overall measurement system of the sustainable development. Different enterprises development programs are described in the view of sustainability: green chemistry, green engineering, ISO standards. Various procedures of industrial adaptation of sustainable development concepts are proposed.
